Liner Notes

We are one of the only 100% democratically-lead theater companies in South Florida. We believe theater is a collective art between the artists and the audience, and, as such, we are always seeking ways to reach out and bring theater to underserved populations.

Tattered Remnants, Inc. was formed in 2024 by a collection of theatre artists who had been displaced and left artistically homeless by the numerous theatre closures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal of building a new theater company in which members would support each other’s work and foster a safe environment where artists could take risks led to a broader realization: if we wanted to help rebuild our theatre community, we also needed to expand its audience. That meant making work for people who might not otherwise go to theater, whether because of location, means, or interest.

Before we established any formal identity or brand voice, we found ourselves instinctively drawn to the artwork and logos of the early-to-mid 1990s—an era when the early internet was still idealistically viewed as a radical tool to destroy barriers to access. What began as an entirely accidental visual preference became the missing link in our operational strategy. Recognizing that connection is why we leaned entirely into the record label motif.

In 2026, a new leadership team turned that instinct into a cultural operating system modeled on 1990s independent record labels like Merge and Simple Machines. Under this framework, we manage our output as a distinct catalog of individual releases. This allows us to produce work in wildly different artistic styles without forcing them into a safe corporate template, building a recognizable identity through the sheer strength of the work. The DIY ethos remains foundational: small teams, shared resources, direct relationships with audiences, and a deliberate choice to build our own scene rather than wait for ideal conditions

We are building the mythology a scene needs to survive. We build a distinct body of work, share a common language, and ground ourselves in enough history that people feel like they’ve found something worth being part of.

Distro Terms

Civilization was built on the work of three core craftsmen: the brewer, the baker, and the bard. We honor that foundational work by dividing our catalog into three distinct release lines.

Brewer

The Brewhouse is our home for raw experimentation, unclassifiable projects, and theatrical split 7-inches. This line champions devised pieces, loose-wire collaborations, and immediate, one-off events. It is a space dedicated entirely to work shaped deliberately in the room rather than handed down in a predictable, familiar form.

Baker

The Bakery is our home for the written play. If bread is the staff of life, the text is the foundational staff of theatrical practice. This line centers the playwright, providing a dedicated space where new scripts are read, tested, and developed to move systematically toward a full production.

Bard

The Tavern is our home for the fully realized play. This is our mainstage line: complete productions built around a script, a director, a design team, and a live audience. It is where we take on the dramatic canon, contemporary plays, and any work that demands the traditional mainstage form.
