Culture doesn’t belong to the people with the biggest budgets or the power to decide what’s worth seeing. It belongs to the people who make it and the people who show up for it. Art is how ordinary people figure out where they stand, question what they’re told, and imagine a world that doesn’t have to look quite so much like this one.
Theatre should infuriate us and make us think. It should ask questions nobody has easy answers to, expose the absurdity of being human, and give us something worth arguing about on the way home. It should have some teeth. And nobody should need the right connections, the right education, or the right bank account to be part of it.
Tattered Remnants exists because too many people have been pushed to the margins of our cultural life. Audiences get overlooked. Artists get priced out of their own profession. Money and connections have too much say in whose stories get told and who gets to hear them. When culture becomes something only a select few can afford to make or experience, it gets smaller, safer, and a whole lot less interesting.
South Florida deserves better than that. We think it’s worth building something different. And we think it’s worth putting our money, our time, and our faith in each other behind it.
